Leeds Knights Vs Sheffield Steeldogs preview featuring Kieran Brown
The second semi-final first leg matchup faces off on Friday as the Leeds Knights will battle against their northern rivals the Sheffield Steeldogs.

The Romford Raiders await in the cup final after they defeated the MK Lightning 10-7 on aggregate.

Kieran Brown is hopeful this year quoting “it’s my third year in the run for this trophy and I’m super excited to try and win it this season.

“The team is absolutely buzzing at the moment and I feel like we haven’t even hit the top of our game yet, excited to see what more this team can do.” Said Kieran.

The Knights have had some struggles to win the NIHL cup the last couple seasons after loosing to the Peterborough Phantoms in the final, two years ago and exited in the semi-finals last season to the Hull Seahawks. But this season they have taken a different approach in choosing to play at home in the first leg.

“A good start at home is huge for us, if we can come out on top in the first leg it will give us a great advantage going into the second leg.” Quoted Kieran.

The Steeldogs however, have improved a lot this season. The new player pathway to the Steelers has been a big pull for young players to join. Fin Ulrick, Ivan Björkly Nordström and Nathan Ripley are among those with two way deals.

The Dogs have also signed three very strong imports with Walker Sommer currently leading the whole NIHL with 5 on 5 goals! He is definitely someone the Knights need to try and keep quiet if they want to book their spot in the final.

“We have to take it period by period, 120 minutes is plenty of time and these cup ties are a marathon not a sprint” said Brown

The Knights are going into this tie in brilliant form! They have won their last six games in a row and haven’t lost at home for eight games. But something you cannot do is write of the Steeldogs who have been very strong in the cup competitions over the seasons.

It’s looking like both team will be full strength which should make Friday an extremely competitive game. Kieran finished off with a message to the Knights fans saying:

“Get down to the Castle on Friday night, we appreciate all the support over the last few seasons and hopefully we can bring back some more silverware this year!”
