Recapping week 16 of the NIHL
Friday 27th December:
The Bristol Pitbulls hosted their southern rivals the Swindon Wildcats and it would be the away side who secured a 5-0 shutout victory with Bricknell scoring twice and assisting a further two goals.
Saturday 28th December:
The Wildcats then completed a four-point weekend after making a comeback against the Telford Tigers. The Tigers went 2-0 up inside the first ten minutes but the Cats responded with five goals in the second period to eventually win the game 8-3.
The Berkshire Bees hosted the Romford Raiders and after two period it was 3-3 but the Raiders pulled off a big third period to win the game 6-3 with Shewfelt and Anderson picking up three points each and Owen Rider picking up another win in net for the Raiders.
The Hull Seahawks made a big third period comeback from 4-1 down to defeat the Sheffield Steeldogs 5-4. Former Steeldog Lee Bonner scoring the game winning goal. James Chilcott also adding two assists in the game.
Captain Kieran Brown led the Leeds Knights to a 5-3 victory up Dumfries against the Solway Sharks. Brown scored a hat-trick on the night including a penalty shot to wrap up the two points. Innes Gallacher scoring the game winning goal.
The MK Lightning had a double header this weekend with their rivals, the Peterborough Phantoms and it was the Lightning who drew first blood winning 5-2 on the night. Five different goalscorers for the Lightning.
Sunday 29th December:
The Leeds Knights completed the double against the Solway Sharks with a comfortable 5-1 victory on home ice. Kieran Brown scoring another hat-trick bringing his season total to 25 goals.
The Romford Raiders also completed the double against the Berkshire Bees after making a comeback from 3-1 down to win 5-3. Shaun Miller and Jake Sylvester both scoring two goals each on the night.
The Hull Seahawks pulled off yet another comeback from 4-1 down against the Steeldogs. Five different scorers for the Seahawks and a game winning goal from former Steeldog, Jason Hewitt.
It was a cracker in Bretton where the MK Lightning won on penalty shots against the Peterborough Phantoms with Martins Susters scoring twice in the shootout against his former side to hand the Lightning a four-point weekend.
The Bristol Pitbulls secured a big away victory in Telford as they defeated the Tigers 5-3 with Nick Pryce and Bayley Harewood both scoring twice leaving the Tigers with zero points this weekend. A huge two points for the Pitbulls who are still hoping to get that play off spot
