The Knights book their spot in the NIHL cup final
The Leeds Knights secured a place in the NIHL cup final after defeating the Sheffield Steeldogs 5-2.

It was all evens after the first leg in Leeds meaning the winner of this game would get a place in the final to play the Romford Raiders and it would be the Knights who made the comeback from 2-0 down to defeat the Dogs.

Sam Gospel the star of the show saving 51/53 shots on the night and proving again why he’s one of, if not the best goalie in the league.

Game report:

It would be the perfect start for the home side with veteran Jonathan Phillips racing away one on one and backhanding it over Gospel at 07:10. That lead would then be doubled as a bobbling puck found its way to Walker Sommer who flicked the puck into the net past a scrambling Gospel at 15:55. The Knights fought back into the game and got their first goal of the evening with Dylan Hehir finding a gap and firing it past Ben Norton at 17:41. Then with just one second left of the first period, Finn Bradon reacted quickest to a loose puck and batted it into the net to tie it all up.

The Knights would then get their first lead of the game as the puck got played back from the face-off to Oli Endicott who fired the perfect shot into the top left corner sending the Knights fans into elation. Goal was timed at 30:38.

Then it would be Captain Kieran Brown who stepped for the big occasion and gave the Knights a two-goal lead. Once again the puck got played back from the face off and he fired it shortside past Norton timed at 47:42. The remainder of the game was chance after chance for the Dogs but they couldn’t find the finishing touch. They then pulled the goalie for the extra skater but it would only end up with an empty next goal from Haywood who took his time and fired it in from the half way line to wrap up the tie.

Final score: Steeldogs 2-5 Knights
