DRS OUTCOME: Saturday 1st and Sunday 2nd March 2025
There are three DRS reviews requested by teams in the Planet Ice National Ice Hockey League over the weekend of 1st & 2nd March 2025.

The Game Review Panel have adjudicated and reviewed DRS video requests from Peterborough Phantoms and Milton Keynes Lightning during their fixture on Sunday 2nd March 2025.

Peterborough Phantoms #2 Thomas Norton

The DRS review requested by Milton Keynes Lightning is upheld.

As players PB#2 and MK#59 battle for the puck near to the blue line of the Peterborough offensive zone Mk#59 wins the battle and attempts to skate away from the mentioned opposing player PB#2, as he does so PB#2 attempts to hook with blade of his stick the arm area of MK#59, but connection becomes weak and due to the movement of MK#59 the stick raises up and beyond the shoulder area and makes contact with the head area of his body.

At the time this was penalised with a minor penalty during game and PB#2 served that at the start of the 3rd period with the penalty being called on the conclusion of the 2nd Period for High-sticking under rule 60.2.

Rule 60.2

Any contact made by a stick on an opponent above the shoulders is prohibited and a Minor Penalty shall be imposed.

The DRS is submitted with the rule 62. Spearing and due to the action reviewed in the video footage supplied by the reporting club this can clearly be seen as High stick and not Spearing due to the action /motion of the stick in question.

The Game Review Panel have sent the DRS review to EIH DOPS, as this action caused reckless endangerment, and the call made upgraded to a 5 + Game Misconduct penalty under High sticking Rule 60.4.

Rule 60.4

The Referee, at their discretion, may assess a Major Penalty and an automatic Game Misconduct Penalty if, in their judgment, the

Player recklessly endangers their opponent by “high-sticking”. Such assessment of reckless endangerment shall be based on the severity of the infraction, severity of the contact, the degree of violence and the general reprehensibility involved.

Milton Keynes Lightning #28 Tim Wallace

The DRS review requested by Peterborough Phantoms is Upheld

At 50.34 during the game between Peterborough Phantoms there was an altercation between PB#35 and MK#33 both players were penalised under rule 46 for different penalties.

It is acknowledged that lighting Player #28 was first to intervene in the fight and should subsequently be penalised under rule 46.7 THIRD Player in.

46.7. THIRD PLAYER IN A Game Misconduct Penalty, at the discretion of the Referee, shall be imposed on any Player who is the first to intervene (“third Player in”) in an altercation already in progress, except when a Game Misconduct Penalty is being imposed in the original altercation. This penalty is in addition to any other penalties incurred in the same incident. This rule also applies to subsequent Players who elect to intervene in the same or other “altercations” during the same stoppage of play. Generally, this rule is applied when a “fight” occurs.

For these actions the player will receive 4 penalty points.

As the player has reached 15 personal penalty points, the player is suspended for 1 game under the totting up procedure.

The Game Review Panel have adjudicated the DRS video request from Sheffield Steeldogs during their fixture with the Telford Tigers on Saturday 1st March 2025.

Telford Tigers #23 David Thomson

The DRS Review is Upheld

An incident occurred at 9:31 during the first period, Sheff#6 was checked by Tel#23 into the boards, and this was not assessed as a penalty during the game

Due to the lateness of the hit by Tel#23, the impact with Sheff#6, the distance the player was propelled to the boards and the reckless endangerment caused a minor penalty would not have been sufficient on the player

Under Rule 41.4 this should have been assessed as a 5 + Game Misconduct penalty due to the following factors:

Sheff#6 was not in possession of the puck, which had been released down the ice.

Sheff#6 was not eligible to be checked and would not have been expecting or in a position to protect himself from a check and the reckless endangerment caused.

As the first point of impact with the boards was the shoulder area and appeared minimal the Tel#23 will receive a 5 + Game misconduct penalty. Under rule 41.4 Boarding

The Referee, at their discretion, may assess a Major and a Game Misconduct Penalty if, in their judgment, the Player recklessly endangers their opponent by “boarding” and the player would not be sufficiently sanctioned by imposing a Major Penalty. Such assessment of reckless endangerment shall be based on the severity of the infraction, severity of the contact, the degree of violence and the general reprehensibility involved.

Player receives 5 penalty points and is free to play subject to accumulated penalty points.
