Top 3 NIHL players of week two
1. Aaron Nell
Our number one star of the week is the Swindon Wildcats player-coach Aaron Nell who put the team on his back Saturday night as he scored four goals including the game-winner. Despite going 2-0 down in the first period, Nell got the first goal back to gain momentum for the Cats. He also added an assist making it a five-point night on Saturday. On Sunday he added another assist in a 3-1 away victory against the Berkshire Bees. He ended the weekend with four goals and three assists.
2. Matt Barron
The Canadian carried on his goalscoring form from last weekend, scoring twice in both away games this weekend. Starting with his two goals and one assist in a 7-0 win against the Bristol Pitbulls. He then opened the scoring on Sunday in a 6-4 win against the Telford Tigers where he picked up two goals and two assists on the night including an assist on the game-winner. Barron totaled four goals and three assists this weekend.
3. Johnny Corneil
It was the perfect debut weekend for the new Hull Seahawks import Johnny Corneil as he scored a hattrick on his first game for the club. Matty Davies rolled the dice by replacing Hanas with Corneil and it certainly paid off this weekend. Corneil added a further two assists on Sunday night against the Solway Sharks. Definitely Someone to look out for this season.
Honorable mentions
There were a few players who deserved a mention. Starting with Harrison Walker who got a shutout in his first game for the Knights this season. Tyler De La Bertouche was a huge part of the Bristol Pitbulls first victory as he saved 40 shots in a 5-3 victory against the Steeldogs. Renny Marr also had another brilliant weekend saving 29/30 shots on Sunday night against the Bees. Kieran Brown scored a hat-trick on his first game back. Nolan Gardiner also carried on his goalscoring form as he added another four goals this weekend.
