Recapping week 4 of the NIHL
Saturday 5th October:
The first game of the weekend saw the Romford Raiders continue their unbeaten home record with a 7-4 victory over the Telford Tigers. Canadian Shaun Miller adding to his points tally with a goal and two assists. Jake Sylvester also carried on his goal scoring form scoring two goals on the night. Former Tigers player Aiden Wilson also scored and got Man Of The Match.
The Swindon Wildcats fell to a 3-1 defeat to the Sheffield Steeldogs with Walker Sommer scoring two goals on the night. The Wildcats missed Malasinski and Nell and just couldn’t find the back of the net with Ben Norton saving 36/37 shots. A big cup win for the Steeldogs who have shown themselves to be a big force this season.
The shock of the weekend saw the Berkshire Bees beat the former league winners Leeds Knights 2-1 in Slough with Max Wright having an unbelievable game saving 49/50 shots. Stuart Mogg scored the game winner as the Bees continue to surprise a lot of fans.
It was a cracking game in Bristol as the Pitbulls fell to a 6-5 loss on penalty shots but take a valuable point in their fight for a play off spot. Nick Pryce really picking up form scoring two goals and assisting twice. Salem was the stand out for the Phantoms getting four points on the night and scoring the winning penalty shot.
The Lightning put in their most dominant performance of the season with a 8-3 victory over the Hull Seahawks. Jordan Cownie scoring four points on the night and continuing their home form in the league. This is the first regulation loss for the Seahawks which makes the top of the table even tighter.
Sunday 6th October:
The early game on Sunday saw the Sheffield Steeldogs carry on their form and secure a four point weekend beating the Bees 7-2. Walker Sommer scoring a hat-trick on the night taking his total to 5 goals on the weekend.
The Leeds Knights made a comeback to beat the Solway Sharks 5-4. The Knights were 4-3 down with five minutes to go when veteran Matt Haywood scored two quick goals to hand the Knights two points and keep their unbeaten home streak alive. Matt Bissonnette picking up four assists on the night.
Then came the big derby win for the Peterborough Phantoms as they beat the MK Lightning 4-3. Cameron Hough the hero as he scored a hat-trick on-top of his two goals on Saturday. It was the derby everyone expected with a couple fights and penalty’s but a huge four-point weekend for the Phantoms without their Captain Luke Ferrara who is serving a ban.
The Hull Seahawks got their revenge over the Romford Raiders as they beat them 5-2 at the Hull ice arena. Bobby Chamberlain scoring twice on the night and picking up an assist as well. A big turn around performance after losing their last two games.
The final game of the weekend saw the Telford Tigers pick up their first points of the season as they defeated the Bristol Pitbulls 5-2. Five different scorers on the night for the Tigers. An important victory for the Tiger who will hope to build momentum of those first points of the campaign.
