Saturday's thrilling game at the Link Centre was decided on penalty shots after it ended 4-4 in regulation. New Canadian Ryan Wells scored the winning shootout goal.

Jake Bricknell carried on his goalscoring form after he netted four goals this weekend including a hattrick on Saturday night.


Saturday 7th Wildcats Vs Pitbulls

The Wildcats started on the front foot applying some early pressure to Bristol, but Nappier stood strong in the net denying Malasinski and Nell.

After some good defensive efforts from Bristol, they were rewarded with the first goal. Jacob White-Sey fired low past Renny Marr. Goal scored at 08:36.

The Bristol netminder stopped had a busy first period stopping all 20 shots fired at him.

End of the first period: Wildcats 0-1 Pitbulls

The Cats came out strong in the second period and after a lovely stretch pass from Ryan Wells to Bricknell, the in-form Canadian fired it past Nappier at 24:01.

However, the Pitbulls battled back and broke away three on two with Garry Simpson first timing the puck into the net to get their lead back at 26:23.

But the Cats struck straight back, Wells again playing a great pass to Bricknell who broke away one on and one and slotted it through Nappier’s legs. Goal scored at 27:06.

But the action did not stop there as Bayley Harewood skated down the ice and squeezed a backhand shot through Marr into the net to give the away side the lead heading into the final period. Goal scored at 33:54.

End of the second period: Wildcats 2-3 Pitbulls

The Wildcats applied the pressure straight away firing pucks on goal and they would eventually get the equaliser through captain Sam Bullas on his return!

Malasinski played a lovely pass for Bullas who tapped it in the empty net at 43:43.

But just as they had done all game, the Pitbulls took the lead again, this time Ewan Hill following in a rebound at 47:15.

With time ticking down the Wildcats threw everyone at the Pitbulls net, and the equaliser would come from Bricknell as he snapped a shot into the top corner sending the game to overtime! Goal scored at 55:05.

End of regulation: Wildcats 4-4 Pitbulls

The overtime period was back and forth with Bradley getting the best chance as he skated past everyone including the goalie but could not quite find the touch into the net.

This saw the game go to penalty shots…

Renny Marr made saved all five penalty shots and Ryan Wells scored the winning shootout goal toe dragging it and firing past Nappier to give the Wildcats the win.

Sunday 8th Pitbulls Vs Wildcats

Sunday was a much more clinical performance from the Wildcats with Glenn Billing scoring a hattrick and Ed Bradley netting one against his former team.

The Wildcats started strong with a powerplay goal. Ed Bradley fired it towards the net and it deflected over Tyler De La Bertouche. goal scored at 02:47.

Player-coach Aaron Nell then received the puck on the break and sniped it top corner to double the lead. Goal scored at 04:33.

The Pitbulls battled back into the game with Reece Cochrane scoring a rebound past Perre, timed at 09:23.

But exactly two minutes later, Billing scored his first goal after receiving a perfect saucer pass from Jake Bricknell.

It was then another goal in quick succession for Billing as he raced away one on one and snuck it five hole. Goal scored at 13:30.

But the goals were not done in the first period as Jake Bricknell blasted the puck low into the back of the net, timed at 17:10.

End of the first period: Pitbulls 1-5 Wildcats

The Cats started the period off with some penalty trouble which gave them a chance to practice their penalty killing and the solid killing led to a shorthanded goal.

A beautiful play from Tomasz Malasinski who skated past two players and put it on a plate for Nell who scored his second of the night. Goal scored at 29:50.

Billing then completed his hat-trick after Jones played a perfect pass to the back door for Glenn to tap it home. He was timed at 36:23.

End of the second period: Pitbulls 1-7 Wildcats

The final period saw the Cats killing off some more penalties with Perre making some excellent saves.

Malasinski then joined in on the goals as he received a cross-ice pass from Jamie Smith and first timed it into the net at 53:22
