Top 3 NIHL Players of Week 17
1. Max Wright - Berkshire Bees
The Canadian Net-minders continues to pull out big performances for the Berkshire Bees and giving them a chance to beat anyone and this was proved on a very tough weekend. On Saturday despite the Bees losing, Wright saved 45 shots on the night. Then on Sunday the Bees produced a big upset beating the Leeds Knights 4-2 with Max Wright saving 45/47 shots helping them to and huge two points. This is the second time the Bees have beaten the Knights on home ice with Wright only conceding 3 in the two games.
2. Glenn Billing - Swindon Wildcats
Billing proved once again why he is one of the top brits in the NIHL. On Saturday night he scored a hat-trick to help the Swindon Wildcats to a 4-2 win over the Romford Raiders. Then on Sunday he was one of the standouts again with two assists in a 5-2 win away in Romford for the Wildcats leading them to a four-point weekend and up to second place in the NIHL.
3. Rhys Smetham - Bristol Pitbulls
The 21 year-old forward scored his first ever mens hat-trick on Saturday night against the Peterborough Phantoms in the Bristol Pitbulls 10-3 victory on home ice. This takes Rhys’ tally up to ten goals on the season. It is his first season in the NIHL and he is really establishing himself as a dangerous young talent in the league.
Honourable Mentions:
Aaron Nell scored twice on Sunday night to help the Wildcats to an away win. Martins Susters scored twice on Friday night in the Lightnings win against the Raiders. Emil Svec also scored a hat-trick on Sunday in the Hull Seahawks 7-4 win against the Telford Tigers. And Tommy Nappier saved a boatload of shots for the Pitbulls to help lead them to 3/4 points on the weekend.
