Rule 46 - Fighting @ 40:00
The 5 + Game misconduct penalty for fighting assessed at 40.00 is correct.
Fighting whilst tolerated during game play, is not acceptable between periods and will be penalised.
IIHF Rule 46.9 states “Players involved in “fighting” other than during the periods of the game shall be assessed a Major penalty (Fighting) and an automatic Game Misconduct Penalty (5@+GMP)”
This was classed under IHUK rules as Equal and Willing combatants.
The player receives 5 penalty points on their record and as a tier 1 tariff offence the Player is suspended for 1 game.
Total Games suspended is 1 - this suspension was served on 16th February 2025

As this was in retaliation Rule 46.6 the player receives 5 penalty points on their record
As the player has reached 10 personal penalty points, the player is suspended for 1 game under the totting up procedure

Rule 48 – Illegal Check to the head or neck @ 24:47
On review of all available game video, it was determined that the correct call on the Ice for the incident at 24.47 should have been a 5 + Game misconduct penalty for illegal Check to the Head or Neck area.
48.1. ILLEGAL CHECK TO THE HEAD OR NECK
There is no clean check to the head or neck.
The Player delivering the hit must avoid hitting the opponent’s head or neck.
A penalty for “Illegal check to the head or neck” will be assessed if one of the following occurs when a player checks an opponent:
(I) A Player who directs a hit of any sort, with any part of their body or equipment, to the head or neck of an opposing Player or drives or forces the head of an opposing Player into the protective glass or boards using any part of their upper body.
(II) A Player who extends and directs any part of their upper body to contact the head or neck of an opponent.
The checked player Sheffield #20 was not in possession of the puck, it had been passed to a team mate on the boards. The check made was poorly timed and the initial point of contact was the shoulder of Hull #74 into the neck / head area.
An injury report was submitted and it was noted that Sheffield #20 was not available for their next game.
48.3. MAJOR PENALTY AND GAME MISCONDUCT PENALTY
The Referee, at their discretion, may assess a Major Penalty and an automatic Game Misconduct Penalty if, in their judgment, the Player recklessly endangers their opponent by an “illegal check to the head or neck”. Such assessment of reckless endangerment shall be based on the severity of the infraction, severity of the contact, the degree of violence and the general reprehensibility involved.
The player receives 5 penalty points on their record and as a tier 1 tariff offence the Player is suspended for 4 games.

Solway Sharks - #9 Mason Alderson
Rule 43 – Checking From Behind @ 47:45
On review of all available game video, it was determined that the correct call on the Ice for the incident at 47.45, should have been a 5 + Game misconduct penalty for Checking from behind.
Play is in the middle of the rink near the blue line, Berkshire #74 is in possession of the puck and Solway #9 swings at the puck and dispossess the Berkshire player, the puck goes to the left as it does both players turn towards it, #74 plays the puck up the and is approximately 6 feet away from the boards facing them. #9 is behind him with a 2–3-foot gap, #74 slows and is hit from behind, through the numbers and is propelled into the board face first.
43.1. CHECKING FROM BEHIND
A check from behind is a check delivered to a vulnerable Player who is not aware of the impending hit, therefore unable to protect or defend themself from such a hit and contact is made on the back part of the body.
There is no 2-minute Minor or major 5 Minute penalty available for selection for checking from behind.
43.3. MAJOR PENALTY AND GAME MISCONDUCT PENALTY
The Referee, at their discretion, shall assess a Major Penalty and an automatic Game Misconduct Penalty to a Player guilty of “checking from behind” an opponent, and who recklessly endangers the fouled Player.
The player receives 5 penalty points on their record and as a tier 1 tariff offence the Player is suspended for 2 games. (1 game will be suspended dependant on no re-occurrence during the remainder of the 2024-25 season.
Additionally, #9 was involved in an equal and willing combatant fight at 59.55 and the player receives 5 penalty points on their record and for fighting in the last 5 minutes receives an Automatic 1 game suspension.
As the player has reached 10 personal penalty points, the player is suspended for 1 game under the totting up procedure
As the player has reached 15 personal penalty points, the player is suspended for a further 1 game under the totting up procedure.
Total games suspended is 5 games. (1 game suspended) player to serve 4 games.
