Recapping Week 24 Of The NIHL
Friday 21st February:
Captain Kieran Brown was the difference between the two northern sides as he scored a hat-trick in the Leeds Knights 4-2 victory over the Sheffield Steeldogs to kick start the weekend.
Saturday 22nd February:
After signing a two year extension, Renny Marr led the Swindon Wildcats to a 7-0 shutout victory, making 29 saves on the night. It was also a five point night for Jake Bricknell who scored twice.
Despite being very short benched, the Hull Seahawks pulled off a big 4-1 away victory against the Berkshire Bees with three power play goals. Jason Hewitt scoring twice for the northern side.
The Solway Sharks got their first win in 7 games as they defeated the Telford Tigers 7-4 at home in a big battle for the 8th play off spot. Callum Boyd scoring twice on the night to cap off a huge two points for the Scottish side.
The Milton Keynes Lightning blew out the Bristol Pitbulls at the pound with an 11-0 shutout victory. Nine different scorers on the night to maintain their place at the top of the NIHL table.
And finally it was a four-point weekend for the Leeds Knights who took down the Peterborough Phantoms, winning 4-1 with Matt Barron scoring a hat-trick on the night all assisted by Matt Bissonnette.
Sunday 23rd February:
The Sheffield Steeldogs produced a solid performance at home beating the Solway Sharks 4-2 with Walker Sommer scoring another two goals. The Sharks not quite able to capitalise on getting a four-point weekend.
It was a goal fest in Romford with the Raiders securing a 9-6 victory over the Peterborough Phantoms. Tjay Anderson and Andrew Shewfelt both scoring twice and Jake Sylvester getting a hat-trick. A big bounce back performance from Adam Laishrams side.
The Hull Seahawks did the double over the Berkshire Bees by beating them 6-2 to secure a their third four-point weekend in a row. Owen Sobchak scoring a goal to get his 100th point of the season and becoming the first NIHL player this season to do so. Emil Švec also carried on his fine form with a hat-trick on the night.
The Milton Keynes Lightning also made it a four-point weekend with a 9-2 victory over the Bristol Pitbulls. Ross Venus also bagging a hat-trick on the night which helps the Lightning to a two point lead at the top of the table, but they have now played a game more than the Knights.
The Telford Tigers bounced back very well on Sunday with a 3-2 win against the Swindon Wildcats. Defensemen Rhodes Mitchell-King scoring twice on the night to make it a 5 point weekend for him and a valuable two points for the Tigers who restore their three point lead in a play off spot.
